MLIVE // Detroit designers featured at popup in New York’s SoHo shopping district

DETROIT, MI – Detroit designers are featured this month at a shop in New York City fashionable SoHo district.The Michele Varian Shop, in Manhattan, is hosting “Detroit Built” in the basement of her Manhattan store to feature Motor City-based companies.Joseph Wesley Tea, Courtesy imageFeatured Detroit companies include: Alex Drew & No One, Allison Vince, kem3D, Adorabella Ceramics, Beard Balm, Ben Saginaw, Christine Bossler, Black Catalogue, Ciseal, Cristin Richard, Cyberoptix, Dark Red, Detroit Denim, Detroit Rose, Elysia Vandenbussche/Local Portion, Homes Eyewear, Hunt and Noyer, Laavu, Lead Head Glass, Mirth, Salt and Cedar, Scott Hocking, Shinola, Smith Shop,Tree-Purposed, Urban Solstice Designs, Well Done Goods, Wethouse, Wound Menswear.

Organizers include:

Michele Varian, the shop owner;

Sarah Lapinski, owner of MotorCitySewingandDesign.com, and IndustrialPost.com;
Paulina Petkoski, founder of PlaygroundDetroit.com.

Joseph Wesley Black Tea, based in Detroit, served its tea at the shop throughout the month.

The popup shop was covered in the New York Times, with Varian noting that it wasn’t enough for designers to be from Detroit to be included in the popup. They needed products Varian would carry in her main shop. It runs through Oct. 20.
