Cristin Richard Debuts New Work in “Endangered Species” at 1435 Farmer Street On View through March 27th
PLAYGROUND DETROIT is pleased to present new work from 2020 Emerging Artist Fellowship awardee, Cristin Ríchard in her series, “Endangered Species,” at 1435 Farmer Street, Suite 117 on view through March 27th. Regular viewing hours are Thursday-Sunday from 12-5pm.
In our technology-dominant world, Ríchard’s work begs us to slow down, take it all in, and understand our intrinsic connection to the natural world.
Her current practice is research-driven and interdisciplinary, where installation and performance hold an essential place. Often utilizing a fashion-based narrative, she questions the human condition and the complexity of our existence by incorporating and manipulating natural materials.
Cristin Ríchard’s latest body of work, “Endangered Species,” hones in on our fleeting values. Her passion for materiality deliberately fuels her practice and, in itself, presents an upgraded awareness of ecological balance. She views material as a multifaceted conductor of energy, responsibility, and historical information.
The Performance Installation will feature a soundscape composed by Nate Czarling, activated at the opening event and on weekends (Saturday and Sunday through March 27th).
Artist Talk is on Sunday, March 27th, 2022 from 2-3PM at 1435 Farmer Street. RSVP Requested. Capacity is limited.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Cristin Richard is in the movement of artists whose work is related to the body and identity. Her passion for materiality deliberately fuels her practice and, in itself, presents an upgraded awareness of ecological balance. She views material as a multifaceted conductor of energy, responsibility, and historical information.
She has exhibited her work locally and abroad, in New York, Paris, Iceland, and Switzerland. In 2020, she was awarded the Emerging Artist Fellowship from PLAYGROUND DETROIT. Most recently, she was awarded support from the Gucci Changemakers North America Impact Fund.
