In November of 2018, Detroit artist Ron Zakrin fell approximately 15 feet onto his back resulting in a severe spinal cord injury, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. Ron is currently at a spine rehabilitation Hospital in Grand Rapids, where family and friends are confident that Ron will be strong and will continue to fight as he begins his journey through rehab and towards healing.
In response, the Detroit creative community is coming together to help their fellow artist on his road to recovery. On Friday, March 8, at 8pm, Stirling and Sue Static presents ART-A-THON FOR RON!: An Art Show and Benefit for Ron Zakrin to raise money for expenses due to the accident at Tangent Gallery located at 715 E. Milwaukee in Detroit.
After receiving spinal surgery, there are many expenses that he faces as he transitions out of his rehabilitation facility. In an effort to raise money to assist with his medical and living expenses, which include an open space addition with ramp and an ADA compliant bathroom, several initiatives have been launched on his behalf. Because his current home is not ADA compliant, the funds raised will help to make life comfortable for Ron and allow him do the things he loves most- painting wonderful art and creating music. In leu of the difficulties he has already faced, his family reports that he is in good spirits and recovering daily at home.
Local print-edition company, 1XRun has created a Studio Sale on their website, for fans to purchase artwork from him to directly support him in addition to the GoFundMe campaign that has been created.
Local promoters, Stirling and Sue Static have also organized the upcoming event “Art-A-Thon for Ron,” featuring an art auction to help reach the goal of his crowd funding page.
