APRIL 20, 2022 I DETROIT, MI  — PRISM is a three day weekend experience (April 29- May 1) presented by Art Groupie in collaboration with PLAYGROUND DETROIT. Supported by the IRL Together Fund – a grant program powered by the leading group messaging platform, IRL – the weekend will include three special events playing with associations of color, sound and scent with the aim of centering positivity, healing, and joy.  

PRISM kicks off on Friday evening, April 29th with The Gem Spa. Guests will be immersed in a peaceful, serene environment that evolves into intense, spiritual energy during the evening. Light artist Gerald Collins will provide a site-specific art installation. Often incorporating non-tangible elements of artificial or natural light, color, and sound; his ambient installations posit an alternate materiality which build the omnipresent structures of experience and complete consciousness. This activation is intended to play with the pairing of color and sound as it pertains to the understanding of various emotive states. As the focus of the evening, the installation will be accompanied by live musicians, DJs and performers- including a special performance by Ahya Simone– who each bring their own energy into the space. To invigorate all of the senses, Castalia at Sfumato, a local experimental craft cocktail bar, has created custom cocktails paired with different scents in collaboration with American Liquor Co.

On Saturday, Neon Gutz is MFN party with a photo and light installation by Patrick Ethen featuring high-energy music from local DJs. On the last day Sunday, STRETCH closes the weekend with a community sound-bath and yoga session with an herbal tea-station in partnership with CTYHOP, Afro Moone, Aretha Spa and floral installation from Honey Bee Flowers.

The Gem Spa is an immersive experience rooted in the fundamentals of color and sound and how we as people perceive these natural phenomena and how our perceptions shape our lived experience. Alongside Gerald Collins’ light installation, musicians, DJs and performers will guide the evening’s energy. Sensory exploration is provided in partnership with Castalia at Sfumato and American Liquor Co. spirits.

Saturday, April 30th: NEON GUTZ, The Riverside, 8711 Grand River Detroit, MI, Doors at 9:00PM 

Neon Gutz is a *MFN* party with high-energy DJ sets and light installation by Patrick Ethen.

Sunday May 1st: STRETCH, Time: 5:00PM – 9:00PM, 611 West Philadelphia Detroit, MI 48202

Stretch is a sunset yoga session and community sound-bath, with an herbal tea-station and massage therapist in collaboration with Honey Bee Flowers, CTYHOP, and Afro Moone. 

ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS:

Art Groupie is an ever-expanding Detroit based collective whose mission is to create experiences that bring people together. Founded in 2019, while the founders were in Montego Bay, Jamaica by Jason Rickett and Day Rickett, the collective has since expanded to include Micah Shumake and Corey Johnson. As a collective they are interested in creating spaces to give artists and art groupies alike the opportunity to explore, experiment, and co-create. 

PLAYGROUND DETROIT is an art gallery and creative agency based in Detroit, MI established in 2012. As a social enterprise, the mission is to support and develop opportunities for creative professionals, artists and residents in order to enhance and sustain Detroit’s creative economy.

Stretch the Culture is an organization born from the desire to Exchange, Empower, Enlighten and Expand the culture, founded by Detroit Native Corey Johnson. Johnson has created a platform through Podcasting and Community-based events. The mission and goal of its programming is to lead and “stretch the culture” with an emphasis on Wellness and elevated experiences through entertainment.
