SUPPORT URBAN BEAN CO. WITH A MICRO LOAN TO IMPROVE THEIR BUSINESS IN CAPITAL PARK

Urban Bean Co. is a small, independently run coffee shop in the up and coming Capitol Park district of Detroit. The space has always been a part of and continues to promote the local electronic music scene, it hosts a radio station with regular DJ sets that happen on the second floor. And they sell Dutch Girl Donuts, what more could you ask for?

The owner, Josh moved to Detroit in the winter of 1993, making him a Detroiter for over 20 years. He worked on the line at Chrysler for 12 years. In 2005, he began the renovations on this small, Mid-century modern coffee shop in the Capitol Park section of downtown Detroit.

The coffee shop currently needs help to grow and maintain itself downtown and have launched a KIVA crowd-loan campaign.

“I decided to build out this space in 2003, back when I had a full time job. In exchange for free rent from the original owners, I put my own time and money into the build-out of the space, customizing everything. Finally, I opened in 2008 only to close the doors a year later, due to the U.S. economy that significantly impacted Michigan and Detroit. In 2013, I reopened with my new partner and have been open ever since. I am most proud to have been in Detroit for over 20 years, and I want to remain here for at least 20 more. I want to be part of the survival, changes, evolution, and ultimate success of Detroit and UBC.”
