LIGHTSTRUCK PHENOM
Raymar is a Detroit-based multidisciplinary artist whose work merges filmmaking, photography, music culture, and performance to explore identity, family, and the construction of alternative visual realities. Through cinematic imagery and immersive environments, their practice reflects on emotional transformation, memory, and psychological space.
From the artist-
“LIGHTSTRUCK PHENOM is an act of resolution. Through this exhibition, I confront the tension between stillness and avoidance, asking what it means to face what lies within rather than move past it. The work embraces the notion that forward movement often requires direct engagement with discomfort — and that ‘the only way out is through."
The conceptual framework began with a guided meditation exercise during college, when I was asked to visualize a door — an entry point into an unknown space. Instead, I encountered a barrier: a sealed metal door without a handle, immovable and unresolved. Over time, this image became a lasting metaphor for uncertainty, emotional stagnation, and the psychological weight of transition.”
