About the Artwork: Colin Kaepernick first knelt during the national anthem of an NFL game on September 1st, protesting police brutality and racial inequality. His protest became one of the year’s most divisive cultural moments, demonstrating the personal and professional consequences that can accompany taking a public stand. While Kaepernick used his platform to confront an uncomfortable reality, The Weeknd’s music offered millions an escape from it. That same fall season, his whirlwind romance with Bella Hadid came to an end, just nine months after the couple made their red carpet debut at the Grammys on February 15th.
