ART DETROIT NOW HOSTS ‘3RD THURSDAY’ TO ENCOURAGE GALLERY VISITS
Art Detroit Now is hosting 3rd Thursday, a new monthly art gallery ‘crawl’ in Detroit which as the name implies, takes place the third Thursday of every month. There are 30 galleries participating for this exciting new addition to the art scene.
Hour Detroit Magazine recently interviewed Milana Duthie, who is the managing director of Art Detroit Now and she said, “We want to get people out to these galleries, and really take down the barriers between the Detroit neighborhoods and art venues; it really gives galleries a way to experiment with things like one-night shows, and it gives people the opportunity to visit many different galleries in one evening.”
Art Detroit Now was started in 2006 when,
11 individuals representing a cross-section of contemporary art interests in Metro-Detroit started meeting regularly to consider how our community might work together to increase awareness of the great art, artists and art venues in the Tri-County area. In just 5 years, this ad hoc committee has established a mission, a long-term vision, and a record of accomplishments.” -VIA ArtDetroitNow.com
Some of their other exciting achievements also include, Detroit Gallery Week, their website- ArtDetroitNow.com which is a one stop link to metro-Detroit contemporary arts organization, the Detroit Gallery Guide and DLECTRICITY, a light festival. To help navigate the evening we have listed some of the exciting shows happening below, along with the map guide and Facebook event.
