CALL FOR ART: MATRIX HUMAN SERVICES NEEDS ART DONATIONS FOR OFF THE STREETS HOMELESS YOUTH PROGRAM

Matrix Human Services is a 501(c) 3 organization that has served the Detroit community and surrounding areas for more than 108 years with programs at more than 40 locations. It is their mission at Matrix to work towards ending poverty and creating opportunities for the people that they serve to grow and sufficiently sustain their own lives. Matrix Off the Streets, one of MHS programs, is celebrating its 30-year anniversary and want to do something big!

Artwork submitted can be from within the past 2 years or artists can create a piece for the event. All of the proceeds will be donated to the Matrix OTS homeless shelter. The event is expected to have up to about 400 people; great publicity for artwork and all of the work donated is tax-deductible. Artists interested in participating must download and submit an Artist Commitment Form in order to participate.

Deadline for Artist Commitment Forms: March 20th

Deadline for Art: End of April

Matrix Off the Streets was established in 1986 as a voluntary crisis shelter for homeless, runaway, and at-risk boys and girls in the Metro-Detroit area 24 hours of the day, 7 days a week. The program offers support to youth and families including an emergency shelter, transitional living program for young adults, and services such as counseling, case management, transportation to and from school, life skills and opportunities for recreation. The staff at Off The Streets strives to create a safe space where youth can find solace, have their basic needs met, and get on the right track to a bright future.

The program is looking to showcase local youth, and other creative artists across Detroit. Most of the youth that take part in the program have raw talent, harnessed through different therapeutic outlets including drawing, poetry, and music. To showcase the artwork of these young talents, our fundraising committee is putting together Matrix Off the Streets’ 1st annual benefit event, Art the Streets. Art the Streets will be a formal cocktail event accompanied by an art gallery display where unique pieces of art by Detroit youth and emerging & professional artists will be up for auction. Money raised from auctioning off these pieces of art will support the efforts at Matrix Off the Streets. There will be a keynote speaker, Senator Bert Johnson, who will highlight the issues that runaway, homeless, and at-risk youth face and what we can continue doing to support this group of often overlooked individuals.

Please join Matrix Human Services to support the fight against youth homelessness in Detroit as they showcase the strengths of our city and work towards their $50,000 goal!
