CHURCH: REVIVAL ALBUM RELEASE PARTY FOR NEW COLLABORATION FROM PASSALACQUA & SYBLYNG

After more than two years of work, Detroit hip-hop duo Passalacqua and electro-rock duo SYBLYNG (Seth and Jax Anderson of Flint Eastwood) are releasing their collaborative album, entitled “CHURCH.” CHURCH: REVIVAL is the album release show, which will highlight their independent and collaborative work, as well as a collection of other prominent local and national musicians who influence them. The supporting lineup is killer, including Tunde Olaniran, Open Mike Eagle, Nothing Elegant and others.

PLAYGROUND DETROIT was invited to the private listening party for CHURCH earlier this month…trust us, you do NOT want to miss this show. The Right Brothers have worked to create an incredible [short film] music video to accompany one of the songs on the release, “The Baptism,” which will also be premiered in its entirety for the first time. [Check out the trailer below.]

Why the name CHURCH you ask? Simply, the songs were all recorded in an actual church as Seth and Jax Anderson come from a Preacher’s family. The whole album has a very powerful and emotional sound because the backdrop is full of gospel voices layered behind the lyrics.

At the listening party,  each track debuted to an intimate room of attendees at The Flight House, while the musicians spoke briefly about the inspiration for the song and other interesting facts about the collaboration and recording process. The project was a total collaboration between both of the duo groups that started with some of the beats from Flint Eastwood, then worked into by Passalacqua. Even though their individual musical styles are very different, the cross-pollinated sound inspired them all to write their own lyrics.

If you listen close to the songs, Bryan and I wanted to get a little more serious with this project; I think we had a lot to say.” -Brent, Passalacqua

ASSEMBLE is a movement of young people who want to ensure that we are a part of re-imagining and shaping the city’s future. We believe a diverse and empowered artistic community needs to be a central part of that future. If ASSEMBLE is about convening people around a question, “What are we actually trying to build in Detroit?”, we are attempting to create spaces for people to experience things that we think are a part of answering that question. In this case, we are supporting an array of talented Detroit musicians, and showcasing them in a space that exemplifies the youthful social innovation that is making an impact in the city.
