Exactly one year ago today, the Detroit News wrote a review of “Vanishing on 7th Street,” urging you not to watch this movie,

If you like mystery movies where the mystery never gets solved … well, you probably still won’t like “Vanishing on 7th St. This is one of those movies where some massive, unexplained phenomenon happens, and the few survivors run around like chickens with their heads cut off trying to figure out how to stay alive. –Review: ‘Vanishing on 7th St.’ not worth watching

“Vanishing on 7th Street” is a psychological thriller movie shot in Detroit in 2010, directed by Brad Anderson. Starring Hayden Christensen, this movie truly fails to ever satisfy any questions the audience has- the most notable being, why the entire population of the city literally ‘disappears’ into thin air?…. As in, all that actually remains of the citizens are piles of clothing and shoes spread all over. It’s currently running on Showtime, it never really made it into major theaters after it was released. Some shots of the city are pretty cool- but unfortunately this movie majorly bombs. You can’t help but notice some close-hitting themes of the city’s actual de-population- many scenes remind of ruin photographs that also look like the city was abruptly abandoned all at once. Watch the trailer to catch some interesting shots of Detroit and the attractive Hayden, but skip the full movie.
