GRASSROOTS TEC-TROIT MUSIC FESTIVAL CELEBRATES FIVE YEARS OF DETROIT DJ HEAVYWEIGHTS FEAT MIKE HUCKABY, NICK SPEED & MORE

You can’t stop a Detroit party- after facing issues from the city, the festival originally set to take place in Roosevelt Park, will be relocated to The Works in Corktown. On June 17-19th, Tec-Troit Festival will bring together he city’s hottest electronic talent. This grassroots festival has been in existence since 2011, and was created by Detroit’s own DJ ROACH of Nuestro Futuro Records. Rooted in the local techno music scene, Tec- Troit is a platform where local electronic artists (and special guests) can showcase their skill in an uncommercialized, come-as-you- are type environment. Did we also mention that it’s free?

Tec-Troit is a delivers offerings for all of the senses. With a lineup of over 60 multi-genre music performers, the festival will also encompass a variety of food/ retail vendors as well as visual artists. Keeping true to its community connection, Tec- Troit also plans to throw some philanthropy into the mix. The festival is partnered with two local service organizations, adding a charitable feel to a lively occasion.

R.A.W.S. (Ravers Against World Starvation) is a local organization with a mission to help the public via the party scene. They accomplish this by collecting canned and non-perishable food items for needy families. Together Tec- Troit and R.A.W.S. hope to obtain substantial donations for those in need.

SCP (Serendipity, Collage & Potpourri) is an organization that “collaborates with Detroit area community outreach programs, churches, public, and charter schools for the betterment and improvement of students.” SCP launched its Backpacking for Success Literacy Program in 2011 . “Along with Backpacks, School Supplies, and Monetary Donations, we welcome supporters to donate reading material suitable for children,” the founders explain.

Eventgoers are encouraged to bring non-perishables, backpacks and supplies to the event and contribute to change in Detroit. What’s better than partying for a good cause?

Tec-Troit stays loyal to Detroit culture in the midst of changing times in the city and the electronic music industry as a whole. For example, Day Two of the festival will be known as “Revenge of Vinyl”, a full day devoted to the increasingly rare art of all vinyl sets.  Many Producers and DJ’s on the lineup can be seen at your favorite bars and venues hosting monthly and weekly dance parties or just having a good time. Tec-Troit is constantly promoting other free and local music festivals, and has continued to keep prices at $0.00 for five years.  It’s evident that this festival is dedicated to providing community development in Michigan and creates a genuine, affordable link between the city that birthed techno, the artists inspired by it and electronic music heads who can’t get enough.
