Hot Logic Music Series at MOCAD to feature Meshell Ndegeocello, Zelooperz & Dej Loaf in July
After hosting a stellar opening on 7/6 with Bonobo, Omar-S, and Rimarkable, MeanRed‘s “Hot Logic” series continues this week with two shows at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit.
Tonight’s show will feature multi-faceted creator Meshell Ndegeocello, along with one of the city’s best young, local talents in jazz, Ian Fink. After that, this Friday the series will welcome Detroit’s very own DeJ Loaf, with support from Bruiser Brigade’s ZelooperZ, APX’s Lana LaDonna, as well as curated selections from The Playlist Princess.

Meshell Ndegeocello wsg Ian Fink: Monday, July 15th @ 6pm
Bassist, singer, and songwriter Meshell Ndegeocello uses a range of skillfully hones talents to explore the politics of race, sex, and other important topics. Her latest album, Ventriloquism (2018), sees the artist reinterpreting formative R&B classics of the ’80s and early ’90s, paying tribute to the importance of the music both in her life and in the lives of many others.
Ian Fink is one of the most exciting young names in Detroit’s music scene, working with a wide array of talented collaborators across the city and beyond, and earning the respect of contemporaries and musical legends alike in the process. His weekly residency, “Duality Detroit,” is hosted every Wednesday night at Motor City Wine in Corktown; you can hear Fink talking with Sam Beaubien on Culture Shift about the “Duality Detroit” 2019 Black History Month series here.
DeJ Loaf, ZelooperZ, Lana LaDonna, & The Playlist Princess: Friday, 6/19
DeJ Loaf grew up on the east side of Detroit, emerging in 2013 with her debut mixtape, Just Do It. Since then, DeJ has become a Detroit hip hop success story, going platinum with her song “Back Up,” featuring fellow Detroiter Big Sean, and working with huge names in music such as Eminem, Future, Lil Wayne, and Leon Bridges.
ZelooperZ’s raw and ever-evolving style has kept audiences intrigued for years, most recently with his project Dyn-o-mite, which features production from Black Noi$e and a guest verse from Earl Sweatshirt. Lana LaDonna has been making waves as of recent, including with the fresh visuals for one of her latest songs “Froggy.” The Playlist Princess is the curatorial persona of one of the Detroit social scene’s most active contributors, Amber M. Lewis.
