Detroit-based live techno duo ke thu made quite the impression when they launched into the local music scene with a unique force in late 2018. Fans quickly caught on to their carefully curated body of electronic music and equally cool visuals that accompanied their increasingly frequent appearances across the city. One year after their initial debut and a roster of shows later, ke thu decided to take a short hiatus from playing live sets to instead re-focus on writing and planning for their next year.

The wait is finally over. (Thankfully!) ke thu is back! They have just announced a new line-up of upcoming shows through early April- mark your calendars- beginning Friday, February 28th at Tangent Gallery, as the opening act for Fur Coat (Entry is free before 11pm with RSVP!)

Tell us about the brief hiatus you went on at the end of last year.

“We’ve been working extremely hard on our first full length LP. When we’re playing out a lot, we pressure ourselves to write a new live set for every show, so it becomes difficult for us to find time to really focus on writing tracks for release. We wanted to give this LP the proper time and attention it deserved.”

How are you feeling about the first show happening at Tangent Gallery with headliner, Fur Coat?

“Tangent on Friday night will be special. It will be the first time we’ll show anyone this new material, and it’s our first show since September. We have a new set up that allows for a lot more improvisation and real-time exploration, so we are very excited about that.”

“We have a string of shows in March and each one is going to be a little different. Tangent will definitely be a true representation of the album with a lot of variety throughout the set.

On March 13th at Spread Art, we will probably be a super deep driving techno set. The next night at Whiskey Disco will be kind of dance-y and groovy. Then, we’re doing an ambient set during brunch at Woodbridge Pub on March 15th, and on March 20th we are hosting our first live set residency at Woodbridge Pub- more to come on that soon- as well as our beloved THRG party at Marble Bar April 9th…”

From the sound of it, there will be plenty of ke thu for everyone to go around this Spring, fans rejoice! Don’t miss their brand-new and improved live set at Tangent Gallery tonight.

Admission is free before 11pm with RSVP.
