MOCAD NEW WAVE PRESENTS MONSTER DRAWING RALLY
Not long after opening in 2006, the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit [affectionately known as MOCAD] founded New Wave, which is “a network of young professionals in Detroit that organizes projects and events to promote MOCAD’s mission and raise funds for the Museum,” New Wave member Lindsay Sebold explains.
“The first of its kind in Michigan, this live drawing event brings more than 60 of the area’s most talented artists together in one room. The participants donate their time and skill to produce one or more original works in one hour. Each drawing will then be available for immediate sale, with all proceeds to support the Museum and its programming.”
These artists and “art enthusiasts [are] actively contributing to increasing public awareness of […] contemporary art in our community.” Sebold continues: “The type of work the group does range […] The museum looks to bring artists from all over the world, […] but there is a balance in supporting artists in the city.”
They also know how to balance work and play by throwing some truly smashing parties. This Friday, December 7th New Wave is hosting the first annual Monster Drawing Rally at MOCAD to raise funds for the museum. Beginning at 8PM and running until 12 midnight, $10 gains your entry to the “live drawing event and fundraiser, with a live DJ spinning music to draw and dance to all night long.”
