It is a monthly literary showcase that launched in February 2014, curated by Literary Detroit and hosted at Signal-Return, a letterpress studio in Detroit’s Eastern Market. Motor Signal invites local poets to read their work, but it goes beyond a typical poetry reading by involving the audience in an activity of literary co-creation.

He is one-fourth of the hip hop collective group, Cold Men Young. He recently released a new music video for his Grand De$ign project, “Keep It Running,” and featured on the The Milo Show. His lyrical prowess and rapid-fire raps set him apart from so many local rappers.
Casey Rocheteau was born on Cape Cod, and raised as a sea witch. Winner of inaugural Write A House permanent residency in Detroit in 2014, Casey has attended Callaloo Writer’s Workshop, Cave Canem, and Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference in Sicily. Their second poetry collection, The Dozen, was released on Sibling Rivalry Press in 2016. Motor Signal’s 2017 season will be from February through June. Each month has a new theme.
Sponsored by Literary Detroit and housed in Signal-Return’s gorgeous space, Motor Signal will serve as a new hub for a literary community in Detroit. Literary Detroit’s mission is to cultivate Detroit as a literary city, ignite the imaginations of readers, and create meaningful on-the-ground connections between readers and writers. It was founded in December 2012, with lively spirits of all kinds at Motor City Brewing Works.
