There is not a better single word to describe one of the most exciting weekends in downtown Detroit- “Movement.” The internationally recognized electronic festival movement always has an impressive line to get in to see amazing artists on stage.  Saturday through Monday the party rages on.

Even once the doors to the festival close, venues across the city keep the party going for hours long into the night and early morning.  Detroit transforms into a city that never sleeps for just one weekend of the year.  Coffee shops, bars and venues open 24/7 on this weekend to satisfy the influx of beautiful energy of creative people.  Here’s just some of what you missed if you were unable to attend, there’s always next year…

RADICAL COLLABORATION: What does design and circul RADICAL COLLABORATION: What does design and circularity in Detroit and beyond look like in the future?

Join us this Wednesday, September 13th from 5-9PM @ Newlab Detroit, 2050 15th Street, Detroit MI 48216. <img src= in bio to attend! Detroit as a community represents strong collaborative efforts due to necessity and need. In comparison to a dense market and creative hub such as New York City, which is extremely competitive, Detroit’s collaborative spirit may be our very own superpower. While access to resources and funding may be a challenge, the city and various regional partners already hold the key to future success. This panel will explore how designers can best serve various collaborators and partners to align the vision of the future in order to work together to achieve radical transformation in design and position Detroit, Michigan to have a global competitive advantage. The goal of the discussion is to affect the future positively, help designers develop a point of view, and encourage the audience to focus on the ‘why?’ in addition to the how. 🥃 HIP-HOP 50TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY hosted by N <img src= HIP-HOP 50TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY hosted by Nix Electronix HH-50 @nickspeedent and Ash — Bar @ashbar celebrating producer and DJ Nick Speed’s launch of a Limited Edition series of his portable record players. Shout out to everyone who came out to show love and grab their record player! Special thanks to our friends at Detroit City Distillery @detroitcitydistillery and Ash — Bar @ashbar. To order yours, head to the link in bio or checkout via Instagram. (Only while supplies last! Only 50 were created and a few remain available.) Each customized record player, a series of 50 Limited Edition hand-numbered and autographed units, represents a year of Hip-Hop between 1973 and 2023. Each record player is a unique, one-of-one item. This is a historic release as this is a first; no Hip-Hop artist in the last 50 years of the genre has independently started their own record player company. The debut series was released on Friday, August 11, 2023, on the official 50th Anniversary of Hip-Hop. It was on that very day in 1973, that DJ Kool Herc threw the first documented Hip-Hop party in The Bronx, New York. For the first time, Herc debuted his "merry-go-round" DJ technique, where he focused on playing the drum break section of all of the songs in his playlist for the night, marking the night that Hip-Hop culture was born.
