PATRICK DAVY AND THE GHOSTS & YOU. TAKE OVER THE L.E.S.

Patrick Davy

[8.25.12] The Lower East Side, Manhattan, NYC: The area was covered with Detroit blood last night… No gory or bloody situation here; just a good dose of that hearty, Detroit-style musical flavor wafting throughout the neighborhood.

PLAYGROUND DETROIT caught two musical acts, Detroit-based Patrick Davy & The Ghosts, and YOU. (which is based out of Brooklyn, NY, but members are originally from Detroit.) The evening of music started out at Piano’s with Patrick Davy & The Ghosts. If you aren’t familiar with this group yet, here is your cheat-sheet:

Patrick Davy and The Ghosts are a three-piece group from Detroit, MI. Their music is influenced by Radiohead, Led Zeppelin, Ryan Adams, and Crosby Stills and Nash. Whether they are performing electric or acoustic, the music remains a blend of crafted, artistic melodies and powerful fundamental rock grooves. The Ghosts have a number of recordings and are now expanding beyond their hometown.” -VIA BandSoup

After their set ended PLAYGROUND DETROIT headed over to the Closing Party for White Box Gallery‘s show “Black Beach.” This is the first group exhibition by New York City artist collective, OCCULTER.

The group show featured art from Nadav Benjamin; Jeremy Dyer; Derrick Cruz; Jonathan Goldstein; and Gabriel J. Shuldiner. The show was beautifully curated; all of the artwork featured was in black and white. YOU. wrapped up the evening with a electric performance which perfectly suited the space, strobe light, cords, and all.

This “Electro/Synth punk” trio, including ex-Detroiters Trever Millay and Brad Taormina take ‘noise’ to the next level. Their dark and dreamy sound is nothing like the former group profiled, but there is that ‘je-ne-sais-quoi’ Detroit influence reflected in their music. YOU. is currently on the independent record label Pendu Sound Recordings.
