The headlining act will be joined by an eclectic mix of local and visiting talent with Norty (Denver/ Grand Rapids), Mother Cyborg (Detroit) Little Animal (Detroit) and Edgeslayer (New Orleans) on the bill. At this electrifying performance, an atmosphere of love, acceptance and togetherness is anticipated- as Tunde reaffirms, “Absolutely no racism, sexism, transphobia, femmephobia, fatphobia allowed at this function. Keep it cute.” Tickets start at $10.00 advance purchase and go up to $15 at the door; so grab your ticket today and go into 2017 with drinks, dancing, singing, mingling and protection. Standby goes Tropicana // Standby

Come escape the Michigan Winter and journey to Cuba with Standby Detroit! A table reservation for 2-4 guests provides unlimited Cuban inspired small plates and a special communal cocktail for the group. Bar seating will be available all night on a first come first serve basis as a specialty rum cocktail menu will set the Cuban atmosphere as Standby’ award winning staff puts their imprint on a variety of enticing classics. Standby’s Marlowe Johnson explains, “I’m most excited to feature exclusively rum drinks! I think there’s a stereotype of rum being in overly sweet, one dimensional cocktails. This special menu will change some minds as we have drinks ranging from the boozy and bitter to the classic rum standby and Daiquiri. We want to show that rum is the perfect celebration spirit. Not to mention that daiquiris are mine and every other bartender’s drink of choice — so we decided to put three types on the menu. “Johnson mentions that the staff is excited to take on the night’s featured spirits, Bacardi and Havana Club. Determined to achieve classic representations of Cuban drinks, Johnson remarks, “It’s always an honor to be able to present them [the drinks] in their original and intended form.”

Standby is in the heart of downtown Detroit, and will provide a picture-perfect mixture of city and island flava. Standby never disappoints with its entertaining atmosphere, mouthwatering eats and award winning cocktails and staff. Johnson explains, “I know Joe Rob (owner) has been working tirelessly on this — I can’t wait for everyone to see the surprises he’s got lined up.”

Standby Goes Tropicana from 9PM-4AM for a very special occasion. Reserve your table today! Parties of 5 or more email joe@standbydetroit.com

Jerk x Jollof // Berts Warehouse

Jerk X Jollof (pronounced Jerk and Jollof) is a cultural experience that blends together African & Caribbean culture, cuisine, and nightlife. “Jerk” comes from the popular West Indian spice and “Jollof” is a celebrated West African rice dish. These two elements bridge together for an evening of cultural exploration – an experience that has proven to stand alone in Detroit as one of the most sought after events to attend in the city. With their Detroit residency at Marble Bar starting back in July 2016, Jerk X Jollof aims to be Detroit’s African & Caribbean staple.

This New Year’s Eve, Jerk X Jollof has moved to Bert’s Warehouse in Eastern Market. Attendees that purchase a ticket for the “Taste & Network” from 8-10 PM are treated to a buffet of West African/Caribbean cuisine, a top shelf open bar, party favors, and more. Doors open for the party at 10 PM, where Jerk X Jollof’s in-house DJs spin the hottest Afrobeats, Soca, Dancehall, and Hip-Hop – that promise to keep the party dancing all the way into 2017. Cuisine will still be for sale during the party via Jerk Island, an up and coming Caribbean restaurant in Detroit. (Words by Brendan Asante)
