Humons is the musical project of Detroit’s Ardalan Sedghi. For the last year, he’s been working on making new music to follow up his EP’s re: Being and Being. He is currently working on producing & releasing five of his favorite tracks for his next EP at Assemble Sound. Working with producer-extraordinaire Jon Zott to finish out the tracks, they are together them in tip-top shape for your ears, brain and feet. Jon is a talented producer who has recently worked with JR JR & Tunde Olaniran.

How is this new recording different or expanding on your previous releases?

This release is going to be pretty different from the first record, but a bit closer to how I was playing that material live. Where the first album had a lot of intricate layers of sounds, this record will be using a more minimal, carefully chosen sound palette. Recently I’ve been leaning towards simplicity and doing more with less.

Detroit has definitely had an impact on me musically, listening to more house music and going out dancing, so it will have moments of being darker / dancier. I would say there are still some similarities between the two albums though; they both include a mixture of electronic and organic sounds and have some ethereal pads & vocals mixed in.

Where do you record your music?

All the tracks were recorded in a little studio set up in my bedroom and I’m doing the production work at Assemble Sound with Jon Zott. I’m excited to be working with him to finish out the album, both because I like his work and its just really nice to work with a producer who knows how to make the tracks sound right.

What are constant inspirations for you and maybe some specific to this new recording?

The constant inspirations have been the community in Detroit, being around so many awesome artists & people that inspire me in different ways, house music, dancing, meditation.

Musically, I’d say the biggest influences for this record are Nicolas Jaar, Darkside, Bonobo, Caribou, Bob Moses, Dauwd….
